"For all our members who generously pay the YoungCare Levy with their union dues we say THANK YOU! For various reasons last year we made a tough decision and changed support from RCH to YoungCare. Michael asked me to look at a number of charities like Variety, Red Kite, Make a Wish, YoungCare and others. This was a really hard job and I was nearly in tears reading what some of these charities do for sick kids. At this time Triple M were doing a campaign “On Air for YoungCare”. I heard this on the radio where the public and companies were ringing in to donate money, goods and help out with their labour to build a care centre at Sinnamon Park. I looked further into this organisation and thought this sounds pretty good.

YoungCare care for people aged between 18 – 50 years, because the government don’t have any place for those age groups to go except to old aged homes. Imagine being 26 years old and being placed in a old aged home because there is no where else to go. Pretty sad, as were some of the stories I heard on the radio where parents had to place their own children in aged care facilities. Another good thing is that YoungCare will work with us to do a project, i.e. build duplex houses, retro fit homes with wheelchair access or even buy a bus and put our name on it “CFMEU Courtesy Bus”. Anyway we are proud to be associated with YoungCare so please support your union and pay the $10.00 levy with your dues."

At our recent 150 year Delegates Convention Dinner, Michael Ravbar, on behalf of the CFMEU and its members, proudly presented Nick Bonifant from YoungCare a cheque in excess of $50,000.00
