Delegates are the lifeblood of our Union. They are the on-the-job union representatives that can assist members by standing up for their rights at work.
Being a delegate is about building union strength in the workplace. It is about giving members a real voice in the decisions that affect them, and knowing that you have made a difference.
CFMEU delegates have the support of other members, and the full backing of the Union office.
What do delegates do?
CFMEU delegates perform a range of different duties in the workplace. They are the lynchpin the Union operates around. These include:
-
Organising workers, making sure they are active, united and strong
-
Dealing with members' workplace problems
-
Recruiting new union members
-
Working with officials to improve pay and conditions
-
Keeping members in touch with what's happening in the Union.
CFMEU delegates often also play a role in Health and Safety on large sites, and are able to assist with concerns about health and safety issues. Delegates receive special training to give them the skills to perform their union duties.
