In January last year, the CFMEU formed a Housing Division specifically intended to provide workers from the housing sector, small commercial and owner operators with already existing services provided to financial CFMEU members such as:

• free funeral benefit
• free accidental dental cover
• free childcare benefit
• free financial planning
• free counselling

Not only can we now provide these services to our Housing Sector workers, but we can also provide the following additional services:

• Wage recovery services to include support for sub-contractors and owner operators through the Small Claims Court.
• BSA representation
• CIPS Income Protection for as little as $33.00 per week.

Over the last few months, Bud Neiland (Housing Field Officer) has spent a great deal of time chatting with housing subbie’s asking them what the Union can do for them and what they would expect from the Union in their field. Most of these workers did not realise what we could do for them.

The hardest task for the Union is to get the word out about the Housing Sector of the CFMEU. We have a database of all the new housing estates throughout Queensland, however we cannot expect to get around to all of them. So all CFMEU members make your workmates aware of our new Sector and advise them of the great services and real protection that the CFMEU Housing Sector can provide to them and their families.
