After a short time he became the site delegate for the Building Workers Industrial Union and then later commenced work as an Organiser with the union in October 1988. During the following years he organised for the BWIU/CFMEU in many areas of construction & off-site in Qld including the Brisbane CBD, Brisbane Southside and Northside, Gold Coast, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Hervey Bay with the odd trip to Townsville thrown in for good measure. He was also the Carpet and Vinyl/Floorlaying Industry Coordinator from 1993 to 2006 overseeing many rate increases and improvements for the industry in that time. In 2006 Andrew was seconded to the ACTU and over the following 15 months was the Community Campaign Coordinator, in the successful 'Your Rights At Work" Campaign in the Federal seat of Moreton. This campaign was run by the ACTU and had a lot of support by the CFMEU and other unions and this played a big role in ridding the country of the Howard Liberal Government and its anti-worker legislation. Andrew started back with the CFMEU in January 2008 in a new role as the CFMEU WPH&S Coordinator. This is the first time the CFMEU has had an official full time in this role.
